How bots are filtered

How Loomduct keeps bots and automated browsers out of your numbers.

Bots, crawlers and test browsers can make your numbers look bigger than they are. Loomduct filters them in two places.

In the browser

The SDK sends nothing from automated browsers: when navigator.webdriver is set (Playwright, Puppeteer, Selenium) or in Cypress. You can turn this off for your own tests with allowAutomation; see Test tracking in end-to-end tests.

On the server

Loomduct checks the browser's user agent of every event against a list of known bots and crawlers, with the open-source isbot library. An empty user agent counts as a bot too.

Events from bots are stored, but marked. Visitor, visit and page view numbers in the dashboard leave out every session with a bot event.

What it does not catch

A bot that runs a real browser and hides that it is automated looks like a person. It is counted like one.
